Chief Executive Officer & Director
Mike joined the company as the CEO in August 2015. He is experienced in revenue financing, venture debt and venture capital investing. Previous to TIMIA, he was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Fronterra Capital, as well as Managing Partner, CFO at Chrysalix Energy. Before working on the finance side, Mike worked in the technology manufacturing sector in product and program management, strategy and planning.
Mike has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of BC, and a formal CPA designation.
Chief Investment Officer
Greg joined TIMIA as the CIO in September 2015. He has been on both sides of the table as an entrepreneur and investor. Previous to TIMIA, he was a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Espresso Capital, an early leader in debt and revenue financing for the tech sector, for 6 years. Prior to Espresso, Greg worked for the Business Development Bank of Canada’s (“BDC”) Technology Seed Investment Group. Before BDC, Greg founded and bootstrapped for seven years, his own start-up which he successfully exited in March 2000.
Greg has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of BC.
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT - UNDERWRITING
Andrew has 20-plus years of experience in Canada’s venture capital and private equity industry. He is a cofounder and partner in Tech Capital Partners Inc, a Waterloo-based venture capital management company and founder of TCP Property Inc, a private real estate fund. Earlier in his career, Abouchar worked as an accountant at PwC and as an investment manager at Working Ventures. His also an advisor to the Government of Canada and Province of Ontario, and currently serves on the board of Ontario Centres of Excellence.
Executive Chairman & TIMIA Management Team Representative
Mike is a Co-Founder of TIMIA (formally GreenAngel Energy), which he launched back in 2008. For over 30 years, Mike has been active in the development of new high technology ventures. He was recently the Director of Simon Fraser University’s Innovation Office, actively participates in the Vancouver Angel Network and New Ventures BC business plan competition. Mike began his entrepreneurial journey back in 1973, when he started his own company (Volker-Craig Ltd), which he successfully exited in 1981.
Mike holds an Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo.
Board of Directors
Thealzel joined the board of TIMIA in April 2014. She manages the monthly Vancouver Angel Technology Network (VANTEC) and the Vancouver chapter of the Keiretsu Forum (Northwest Region) for the local startup community of entrepreneurs and angel investors. She also serves on committees with the National Angel Capital Organization (Canada) and the Angel Capital Association (U.S.). She is a founder of two angel seed funds: Nelsa Investment (VCC) Inc. and VANTEC Entrepreneurs Fund (VCC) Inc., which has 40 percent of its portfolio invested in “green technology” companies based in British Columbia.
Thealzel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Alberta, and an Masters of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
James joined GreenAngel Energy as a Director in November 2012 and is the Co-Owner of Prosnack Natural Foods, which makes Elevate Me energy bars and other healthy lifestyle food products. Before Prosnack, James invested in Sepp’s Gourmet Foods, joined the company in an operational capacity and eventually became the CEO. Under his leadership, the business grew from $1M in sales to $88M. Sepp’s was sold to a NYSE listed multinational in 2010. Jim is an active angel investor, has served as a Director of the Food Innovation Centre of BC and was Chairman of the Functional Foods Alberta Centre of Excellence.
James has a Masters of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.
Howard Atkinson has over 30 years of investment management experience, and has published four books on Exchange Traded Funds. He is the former President of Horizons ETFs Management (Canada), and is a member of the S&P/TSX Canada Index Advisory Panel.
Howard holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Economics at the University of New Orleans.
David Demers was the CEO and Co-Founder of Westport Fuel Systems (TSX:WPT) for over 20 years. He has extensive TSX and board experience, as well as strong knowledge of the technology sector.
David has a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from the University of Saskatchewan.
